i read this from my sis's fren's blog.
"chatted with my bro yesterday and topic of conversation invariably shifted to jc life so was just listening to him recount a little bit and i guess it really made me kinda envious of his jc life. not that mine isnt any good, but theres just sth diff about hwachong i guess. and i think my brother is a blockhead he took 7 years to figure out whether someone was interested in him. 7 years."
suddenly i dun feel like too much of a blockhead after all.

oh dear me what've i done, with all that fascination with samurais, knights, generals and now, gurkhas*.
and candice is such a bad influence. my stalkerish instincts are on the rise (ok, at least to me). i just googled "oliver rutz +uni heidelberg +inter-varsity debate". all for the purpose of showing u what i meant by da jiang zhi feng mah! unfortunately... no results!!! sigh.
it was |9:46:00 PM|
disgusting but true, i woke up screaming today becoz i overslept too much.
i am spending too much time online. for that, i blame the nobody-told-me-cannot-access-from-home JSTOR* for making me come online in the first place.
anyhow, i am hooked on the inter-varsity debate (in chinese), especially the Group B contest (for non-native speakers), and especially the particular one in which beijing communication uni vs. uni of heidelberg. and i relish, for the lack of a better word - especially, how the germans trip over chinese words. well actually, it's only the girls. the two guys were good. the fourth (and concluding) speaker in particular. he just have this air/charisma when he speaks, i love that air, and the judges likened him to "a general" (da4 jiang4 zhi1 feng1). becoz how can someone, anyone, think of this in conclusion,
"i'm sorry if we made any of you laugh. becoz today's topic is a deeply serious one".
no surprise there that he won the best speaker.
but both teams were very, very good. the ideas were very in-depth. a pity there that someone has to lose in a debate. (the beijing one won. but to dispell notions, they consists of 2 koreans, a jap, and a black from-i-dunno-where, whom the judges find very handsome and charming and... generous?) for that one hr, they made me waiver on what i thought i have a strong stand on - if euthanasia shud be decided by an individual. (or simply put, does anyone have a right to die)
they make me feel.. small. that i really am not a uni student. that i've been a fake all the while. and nostalgia for the good ol' jc/ sec sch (esp!) days, where debate was the hot thing. nowadays everyone (including me) talks too much gibberish.
ok. and i'm gonna brush up my chinese after this too.

oh and to celebrate penguin's 70 yrs of publishing, it has released 70 short stories written by 70 different types. from experts like vladimir nabakov and sigmund freud, to writers like h.g. wells, jonathan coe, to zadie smith and ali g and jamie oliver and other too-happening for me writers that i dunno of. there's even homer! (as in, iliad homer. not simpson homer) and i l0ve the books! (well, but i love books)
and i am someone who judge a book by its cover. haha
i bought 4 from the co-op the other day. and then induced mavis to buy another 4 at borders y'day. we want to collect the entire collection.
so, plz help to contribute to our "penguin" funds.

if only nus has some module where i can pursue one of the most profound questions that we need to know.
and don't underestimate me man! i do think a lot about such questions!
like, for example, the reasons why love makes you slim.
love is a heart-throbbing affair. ur heartbeat increases (electrical energy), blood flows faster (kinetic energy), one blushes too much coz the capillaries dilate too easily (heat energy dissipated), one thinks too much (potential energy), sparks and chemistry (exothermic reaction. and light and sound energies given out too probably). Thus, overall, ur basal metabolic rate increases fiftyfold.
so, if in the near-and-not-so-near future some article from the scientific community appears... remember, danette have published her report FIRST. here.

i love Minamoto no Yoshitsune!!!
i love him so much that... look at the time now. i stayed up till now to do my readings about him! on a friday night!!! simon wud be so proud of me. well, but i love simon too! even tho' he is so boring this sem. and even tho' he'd cheated my feelings by discontinuing the geisha component of the course.
i think that... yoshitsune must'd been very handsome last time... a very handsome and big and tall and strong and mature and charismatic samurai. like the long ze xiu ming in the NHK drama which simon showed us...
i swear the whole lecture group swooned.
and oh yes! speaking of handsome jap guys... takuya kimura is coming back to channel u! it's some ice-hockey show (opps i forgot the title)! hooray!
and a not-so-wonderful news. i've unknowingly secured a date with herr AH-lex. well it's free tuition but... ... oh dear!!!
