disgusting but true, i woke up screaming today becoz i overslept too much.
i am spending too much time online. for that, i blame the nobody-told-me-cannot-access-from-home JSTOR* for making me come online in the first place.
anyhow, i am hooked on the inter-varsity debate (in chinese), especially the Group B contest (for non-native speakers), and especially the particular one in which beijing communication uni vs. uni of heidelberg. and i relish, for the lack of a better word - especially, how the germans trip over chinese words. well actually, it's only the girls. the two guys were good. the fourth (and concluding) speaker in particular. he just have this air/charisma when he speaks, i love that air, and the judges likened him to "a general" (da4 jiang4 zhi1 feng1). becoz how can someone, anyone, think of this in conclusion,
"i'm sorry if we made any of you laugh. becoz today's topic is a deeply serious one".
no surprise there that he won the best speaker.
but both teams were very, very good. the ideas were very in-depth. a pity there that someone has to lose in a debate. (the beijing one won. but to dispell notions, they consists of 2 koreans, a jap, and a black from-i-dunno-where, whom the judges find very handsome and charming and... generous?) for that one hr, they made me waiver on what i thought i have a strong stand on - if euthanasia shud be decided by an individual. (or simply put, does anyone have a right to die)
they make me feel.. small. that i really am not a uni student. that i've been a fake all the while. and nostalgia for the good ol' jc/ sec sch (esp!) days, where debate was the hot thing. nowadays everyone (including me) talks too much gibberish.
ok. and i'm gonna brush up my chinese after this too.
